Treatment Methods

The prevention of treatment of child abuse and neglect occurs through enhancing parent child relationships and by increasing community awareness and involvement in prevention efforts.

Philosophy

Based on a psychosocial approach that considers both the psychological development of individuals and the effects of their social environment upon their behavior, child abuse is viewed as the result of a stressful environment interacting with an individual who is ill-equipped to effectively parent or discipline his/her child. The purposeful injection of programming to strengthen families and increase the protective factors while decreasing risk factors will break the generational cycle of child abuse and neglect. Involving the community through awareness and educational campaigns as well as educational programming will increase the community protective factors and make safe environments for children in the community.
